Watermelon jam!!! Yes you heard it right, watermelon jam. Not something that is very common. I had already made granita and smoothies this summer and didn’t want to repeat it and hence ended up making jam. But the Watermelon Jam turned out so good that now i get watermelon just to make jam. Try it out and you will know what i am talking about.
I am a part Culinary Council for KitchenAid India. And this recipe is a part of my contribution to the Blog. Hence i have mostly used KitchenAid Products.
. Tri-Ply Copper 10-Piece Set
4 cups – Watermelon cubes, deseeded
1/2 cup – Orange juice
1 tbsp – Lemon juice (optional)
1/4 cup – Granulated sugar
Few mint leaves (optional)
To start making the Watermelon Jam, add all watermelon cubes into the pitcher and using the S blade attachment blend the ingredients till it is completely smooth.
Strain the juice into the 1.42L saucepan to remove any seeds. Add orange juice to this and on a low flame start heating it. I have used orange, as it has natural Pectin which helps the jam thicken and set.
Let the mixture boil and reduce to half.
At this point add sugar, torn mint leaves and lemon (if you like your jam tangy)
Boil it till it reduces further and thickens. Dip and coat the spoon with jam. Remove, and run your finger through the middle of the jam. If a clear path is left, the mixture is ready.
The jam thickens further as it cools.
I use funnels or piping bags to put them in the jar as it keeps the jar clean. Spoon them or pipe them into the jar once it is completely cooled.
Refrigerate and use when required.
