PANeer Bread Balls

  

 Fun Fairs were rare for us in our city. This one was held in a school next our’s. I got some pocket money just for this fair and went with my friends. Having money, that you can spend on anything that you want, gives a huge sense of responsibility. You want to spend wisely. There were lot of stalls that were selling personal accessories, food (mostly chat) and some were hosting some games. 

I am never interested in games, so that was out of the list. So bought few hair bands, earrings and then came the food stalls. I love Churmuri (a local chat made of puffed rice). So that was a must. Then i saw a lady making these fried bread rolls. I was very curious to have them. I ordered one, stood there, and very keenly observed how she made it. I loved the rolls. Bought one for my mom, got it home and gave it to her as if i was buying for her from my earnings 😂, like how parents get you things when they go out.

I explained the process of making the rolls and Voila!! we replicated it at home. Over the years, we have made few changes to the original recipe, and love it till date. 

See, i had a thing for cooking from when i was a school girl, and i realised it so late in life 😀

  
Paneer Bread Balls, are these extremely crisp, deep fried balls stuffed with Paneer bhurji. These are perfect as tea time snacks. These can be prepared in advance, fried once and kept aside. They can be then quickly fried once before serving, making life much more easier. The perfect combination with this will be Pudina Chutney and served with Masala Chai.

  
Ingredients

1 pound / 12 pieces – White/Milk Bread

1/2 ltr – Milk

4 tbsp. – Semolina

For Paneer Bhurji

200gms – Paneer

1 no – Boiled Potato, Peeled and mashed

2 nos – Green chillies

1 tsp – Jeera

1 tsp – Amchur powder

1 tsp – Garam masala powder

1 tbsp. – Oil

Salt to taste

1 no – Onion, small sized, finely chopped

2 tbsp. – Finely chopped coriander leaf

Oil for deep frying

  
Method

For the Bhurji

In a pan , heat a tbsp. of oil. Add jeera and let it crisp up. Add chopped green chillies and then add crumbled paneer to this. add amchur powder, garam masala powder, salt and give it a good mix. Cook it for further 2 minutes. Switch of the flame and let the mixture cool. Add chopped onions, mashed potato and coriander leaves to this and knead the mixture well.

Make lemon size balls out of this mixture. This should make around 12 to 14 balls.

  
In a deep pan keep the oil to deep fry.

In a deep plate take half the milk. Remove the sides of the bread slice and lay the bread slice in the milk. Let the bread soak in the milk. Hold the slice inbetween your palms and press all the milk out of the bread slice. Keep the slice as flat as possible not breaking it. Now place the paneer mixture in the centre and cover it with the soaked bread slice. Using two hands make a smooth ball ( like making laddoo).
Sprinkle some semolina over it.

Deep fry on a medium heat till the ball is nice and brown. Serve it hot with some Pudina Chutney or Imli chutney.
